Case to base

This hinge design is for a clamshell case that displays a pick-and-place machine. The two halves of the clamshell case act as the stationary base for the machine, so this project is meant to ground the two halves of the case together with as little setup as possible.

My Role

I first simulated the over-center mechanism in 2D to ensure that the force calculations were correct. Then, I designed the overall support structure and its linkages in Fusion 360. I chose aluminum 6061 for its machinability and its strength. After they were machined, I assembled it. Shown below are all of the parts that I designed.
